WALLER — The Waller Lady Bulldog volleyball team finished the first third of their regular season with a solid performance against a quality Magnolia squad Tuesday night (Aug. 22, 2023).
Head coach Susan Foy’s Lady Bulldogs stand at 10-8 so far in the season. Just over two weeks remain before District 15-6A action begins, and the Lady Bulldogs have several more pre-district matches and the Rosenberg Lamar Battle of the Brazos tournament in the meantime.
“I think we’re still working out the kinks,” said Foy following the loss to Magnolia. “We lost eight seniors last year, so I know that with this group being young it will take a little bit of time for us to get where we need to be. We’ve had a lot of success early on in our tournament season, so I’m excited for that … I feel like we’re off to a good start.”
“Magnolia is a good team and has a good history with their program,” Foy added. “So (tonight’s game) was a good match for us to see where we need to be and the things we need to work on. Overall, I’m excited for district and by the time we get there, I feel like we will definitely be ready. Our blocking is solid, our defense for the most part is solid, but we are definitely going to be working on our offensive connections.”
The Lady Bulldogs are scheduled to visit Willis this Friday (Aug. 25, 2023) for subvarsity matches, while the varsity team slugs their way through the Battle of the Brazos today through Saturday. Waller’s next home game is set for Tuesday, Aug. 29. The two JV teams have 4:30 p.m. starts and the freshmen and varsity times are slated for 5:30 p.m. starts.
